Promotional Articles Part One

October 24, 2006

About ten years ago I wrote my first article in exchange for advertising. A few years back this process began going mainstream. Today, writing and distributing promotional articles is a major tool for many Internet marketers.

A promotional article is an article that’s distributed to anyone that wants to use it in exchange for advertising. More specifically, they are great for building up incoming links, traffic and credibility.

Although I call them promotional articles, I want to make sure you aren’t confused as to their content. Promotional articles aren’t about you or your company—that would be a sales piece. Rather, they are about your industry or anything else you wish to write on.

For instance, let’s imagine that you have a pet supply website. Some of the promotional articles you might write could be:

  • The Best Dog for Kids
  • How to Train Your Cat
  • The History of the Parrot
  • Great Toys for Cocker Spaniels

The promotional articles, with your name and links, would then be distributed. There are hundreds of places to submit promotional articles to and more pop up daily.

Today, I just wanted to wet your appetite. If you already knew of this great website marketing tool, stick around. I’ll be going deeper as the series progresses.

In part two of this series, I will explain how the concept and distribution works.
